This remodelled house from the early 90s, exudes sophistication and contemporary flair. The once high maintenance garden now boasts a sleek paved landscape, where the old trees continue to grow, setting the tone for a journey from then to now within.  Inside, the house has undergone a remarkable transformation, embracing a refined colour palette of greys, blacks, and whites that resonate with timeless elegance. The staircase with its signature modern concrete slab steps, and a double height clear facade with stark black details floods the entry foyers on both ends with natural light. Gathering spaces such as the spacious drawing room and dining area have been preserved whereas the function heavy kitchen is modernised complete with additional storage, an island and a breakfast table. On the ground level, the architect illustrates how a minor shift of a doorway can alter the dynamic of a space, expanding and re orienting the powder bath, while removing an uncomfortable visual collision between two doorways.

Downstairs, the timeless elegance of marble has been retained, while upstairs, matte grey tiles lend a contemporary edge to common spaces, preserving a sense of continuity and refinement throughout. Previously underutilized areas have been ingeniously repurposed into functional living spaces, seamlessly integrating terrace extensions into rooms and converting the roof into a charming terrace retreat led to by a statement spiral stairway in a cosy balcony overlooking the street.

This remodel is a testament to evolving with the times, where spaces are redefined without sacrificing intimacy, while creating privacy.  The single lounge has been gracefully multiplied into two distinct areas, enhancing the home’s versatility and appeal, as well as portioning the parent’s and adult children’s quarters. What was once a modest layout of three bedrooms and a study has evolved into four equally spacious bedrooms, with two each connected to a lounge. Each lounge is meticulously designed to cater to modern living including a kitchenette, an entertainment console and large windows to breathe in the beautiful tall trees outside.

The architect’s discerning touch is evident throughout, marrying functionality with aesthetic finesse. Noteworthy transformations abound, such as the conversion of a bedroom’s chajja into a chic balcony and the clever repurposing of a wardrobe space into a cozy bed alcove. In the bathrooms, the separation of function spaces and the addition of elegant dress areas elevate the level of luxury. Polished plaster finishes add a touch of refinement to every surface, while each room reflects the user’s unique personality, unified by a cohesive palette that ties the entire home together. Old furniture has been artfully upcycled, blending modern upholstery and sleek black finishes for a seamless synthesis of past and present.

In summary, this house from the early 90s, has been remodelled to a harmonious blend of function and style, a testament to the art of transformation, being with the times and an example of understated architectural ingenuity.
